Customs formalities

Every shipment to a country outside the European Community must be accompanied by an original invoice, with or without a declaration of origin or Eur-1. Without an invoice, it is impossible to prepare an export document or clear goods. The absence of invoices causes significant delays, not to mention additional costs. Shipments with a value of less than €6035.00 must be accompanied by an invoice with declaration of origin. For shipments with a higher value, a Eur-1 form must be prepared.

The declaration of origin

The text of the declaration of origin should read literally:

In German:

″Der Ausführer der Waren, auf die sich dieses Handelspapier bezieht, erklärt, daß diese Waren, soweit nicht anders angegeben, präferenzbegünstigte CE Ursprungswaren sind.″

In English:

″The exporter of the products covered by this document declares that, except where otherwise clearly indicated, these products are of CE preferential origin.″

The statement of origin should be endorsed as follows:

  • Place and date written in blue ink
  • Firm stamp and name of the person signing
  • Signature written in blue ink

For shipments to Switzerland, the declaration must be made in German, for Norway in English. In general, it can be said that countries in Eastern Europe want the declaration in German and Scandinavian countries want the declaration in English.
